Your work stays yours. Here's what posting it on Demoland does and doesn't allow.
Draft — not yet reviewed by a lawyer. Will be finalised before public launch.
1You own your work
Everything you post stays yours. Posting a loop, sample, sketch or song to Demoland transfers no ownership or copyright to Demoland or to anyone else. You keep every right you had before you posted, including the right to release, sell or license the work anywhere else.
2The licence you give Demoland
To run the platform, Demoland needs your permission to handle your files. When you post, you give Demoland a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to do only these things with your work: host and store it; stream it to signed-in Demoland members; generate waveforms and previews from it; show it, with your name and handle, in feeds, boards and challenge results inside Demoland; and, only for tracks you mark as challenge material, let members download them for a challenge as section 3 describes.
That is the whole list. The licence does not let Demoland sell your work, use it in advertising outside Demoland, or pass it to anyone else.
The licence ends when you remove the work or delete your account. After that, cached copies are cleared within 30 days, and Demoland keeps only the records the points ledger needs (such as the track's title and the points it earned), not the audio.
3What other members may do
Other members may listen to your work and give feedback on it inside Demoland. Nothing more. No member may download, re-upload, sample, redistribute or otherwise use anyone's work outside Demoland without that artist's written permission. Hearing a track here is not permission to use it.
The one exception is challenge material. When you mark a track as challenge material and Demoland builds a challenge on it, members can download it, through the download button on that challenge, only while the challenge is live and only to make their entry. The entry stays on Demoland. Releasing it anywhere else, or using the material for anything other than that challenge, needs your written permission. Demoland keeps a record of who downloaded what.
Marking a track as challenge material is optional. Only open verses, open hooks, full instrumentals, loops and samples can be marked, and you can turn it off at any time from the track's page. Turning it off stops downloads straight away, but it doesn't recall copies already downloaded for a live challenge; those are still covered by the limits above. If you want to work with someone's material any other way, ask them first.
4No AI training
Demoland will not use members' audio to train AI models, and will not sell or license it to anyone else for that purpose. Members may not use anyone's work on Demoland to train AI models either.
5Only post what you own or have rights to
Only post work you made or have the rights to share. Covers, remixes and anything built on someone else's recording or composition need permission from whoever owns the underlying rights before you post them.
You confirm this every time you upload, with the checkbox above the Post button. You're responsible for what you post.
6Takedowns
If you find your work posted on Demoland by someone else, email demoland@christopherfambro.com with a link to the track on Demoland, what the original work is and how you can show it's yours (a release link, session files, a dated bounce), and how to reach you. A report form is coming; until then, email is the way.
Within 72 hours of a complete report, the track is taken down while it's reviewed. If it's confirmed as taken from you, it stays down and every point it earned is voided. Accounts that do this more than once are removed from Demoland.
If your track was taken down and you believe that's a mistake because it's yours or you have permission, reply to the takedown email with your evidence. That's a counter-notice. It will be reviewed, the track restored if the evidence holds up, and both sides told the outcome.
7Points have no cash value
Points, levels, streaks, challenge places and features are part of the game. They have no cash value and can't be sold, traded or exchanged for money. Demoland can adjust or void them to fix bugs or undo abuse, such as fake listens or vote trading.
8Removing tracks and deleting your account
You can remove any of your tracks from its page, and delete your whole account from Settings, at any time. Removing a track takes it off Demoland and deletes its audio and cover files. Deleting your account does that for every track, deletes your profile photo, clears your name, bio and links, and ends your sign-in.
Two things stay, because other members' scores depend on them. The points ledger keeps each track's title and the points it earned, and feedback you wrote on other people's tracks stays up, attributed to “Deleted account”. A deleted account no longer appears on the boards. Cached copies are cleared within 30 days.
9Changes to these terms
If these terms change, members are told in the app first. If you keep using Demoland 30 days after that notice, you've accepted the new terms. If you don't agree, you can delete your account before then.
